Raising A Reader
Raising A Reader

Several Brothers representing the Lodge were presented with
a Thank You Poster at the progress lunch at Mar Vista
School.
In
an
effort
to
support
the
long-held
belief
that
elementary
school
literacy
is
of
the
utmost
importance
to
our
nation,
the
members
of
Channel
Islands
Lodge
No.
214
have
made
a
commitment
to
support
the
“Raising
a
Reader”
program.
This
is
a
nationwide
program
that
has
had
great
success
in,
not
only
in
improving
the
reading
skills
of
students
who
are
off
to
a
slow
start,
but
also
fosters
a
student’s
love
of
reading
which
extends
into the family.
While
Channel
Islands
Lodge
No.
214
initiated
this
program,
other
Lodges
in
this
local
area
as
well
as
community
groups
and
individuals
are
invited
to
join
with
us
in
participating
in, assisting with, and supporting this award-winning program.
The
Lodge’s
participation
in
“Raising
a
Reader”
started
with
classroom
activities
begining
in
the
Fall
of
2017
at
two
of
our
local schools. It has since expanded to other schools in the area.
Providing
special
printed
materials
and
teacher-training
naturally
requires
sound
financial
support.
While
Channel
Islands
Lodge
No.
214
has
taken
the
lead
in
getting
this
project
“off
the
ground”
financially,
financial
participation
from
others
will
be
needed.
Since
all
donations
will
be
handled
by
the
“Raising
a
Reader”
account
of
the
Grand
Lodge
Foundation,
they
qualify
as
501c3
donations
and
are
therefore
tax
deductible.
Please
contact
the Treasurer about donating to this worthy cause.
